TOKYO: A tsunami warning was issued Monday for southern Japan after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck off Taiwan's east coast, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The agency issued a warning for tsunami waves of up to 50 centimeters (20 inches) for Miyako-jima island and other smaller islands located in the East China Sea, close to Taiwan.
The strong quake hit at 9:06 am (0006 GMT) at a depth of 10 kilometers (six miles), the agency said.LINK
