WASHINGTON: Six detainees at the US war on terror camp in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba were due to leave in coming days, the White House said.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said that on August 7 Congress had been "notified of six potential detainees that could be transferred within a two week period of time."
Congress had two weeks to oppose the releases, a window that closes on Friday.
Gibbs declined to specify the nationality, identity or destination of detainees set for release.
But among them could well be Mohammed Jawad, who was ordered released July 30 by a federal judge who gave the government until August 24 to report on his return to Afghanistan, and two Syrians Portugal said it would take in. link
