KARACHI: The shortage of sugar is artificial as there are sufficient sugar is available to cater domestic needs.
The spokesman of ministry of food and agriculture Qadir Bux Baloch stated this while talking to Geo News.
He said 3.3 million tonnes sugar produced during current year whereas 1.1 million tones sugar was already available in the stock, which was sufficient for current year’s demand of 4.2 million tonnes.
Sugarcane has planted at 1.1 million hector this year whereas production target is set 56 million tonnes, which will be achieved.
On the other hand, Sugar Mills Association Sindh chairman Abdul Wajid Arain said sugar prices hike because of increase in demand and less supply. LINK
