Posted by M. Rashid

HYDERABAD: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture at a meeting held here on Sunday has demanded of the State Bank of Pakistan to advance bank loans on easy instalments and at low mark-up rate to the farming community of interior Sindh for the development of livestock and poultry.
The general secretary of the Chamber Akhund Ghulam Mohammad Siddiqui presided over the meeting.
It observed that the government was also taking keen interest in the development of livestock and poultry in the rural areas and urged the state bank to supplement the efforts of the government.
It pointed out that the growers had suffered huge losses in the recent past due to natural disasters, including rains and floods, and demanded that bank loans of affected farmers should be written -off and fresh loans should be given to them to enable them to stand on a sound footing.
It called upon the government to direct the Zarai Bank to implement Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Tractor Scheme in a transparent manner.
The meeting also appealed to the Sindh government to provide same facilities to the growers of Sindh with regards to tractor scheme which were being provided by the Punjab government.
It regretted that despite repeated requests of the Chamber, the government had failed to announce the support price of cotton. It said that the cotton crop in Sindh was being harvested but the growers were in a fix as the support price of cotton had not been announced.
It demanded that the support price of cotton and rice should be announced without any further delay.LINK
