The ceremony at the Aiwan-e-Sadr was attended by Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, cabinet members and senior government officials.
Shaukat Tarin was elected unopposed member of the Senate on the seat that fell vacant after the resignation of Senator Javed Leghari. He took oath as Senator on July 30.
The post of finance minister was lying vacant after PML-N's Ishaq Dar quit after his party left the cabinet.
Tarin was appointed adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance with the status of federal minister by the government on the October8, 2008.link
