ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi Tuesday reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to resume dialogue process with India said dialogue is the only way forward to improve the relations with India. Talking to newsmen after presiding over completion of 28th specialised training of foreign office officers at Foreign Office Training Academy here the Foreign Minister mutual cooperation and dialogue were the only way forward that will benefit both the countries. “We have to engage to resolve all the issues,” he said adding that foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India will meet very soon before the annual session of United Nations so that they will present their report to the two Foreign Ministers as they will then engagement each other on the sidelines of the UN session in the light of this report. The Foreign Minister said following the meeting between two prime ministers in Sharm El-Sheikh, Pakistan and India leaders have once again reiterated their willingness to resume dialogue process as it is the only way forward. Replying to a question about sharing of information at the level of two agencies between Pakistan and India, the Foreign Minister said engagement at any level is possible. He however further clarified that both the countries, Pakistan and India, have a joint mechanism for sharing information and fighting terrorism and with more interaction, the mechanism could be further improved. Answering a question about providing information to India regarding its interference in Balochistan, the Foreign Minister the issue was discussed by the two prime ministers and two foreign secretaries in Sharm El-Sheikh. The Minister said, “I believe sensitive matters should be handled carefully and through diplomatic sources instead of handling through media.” Regarding fresh answers to queries sent by Pakistan to Indian in Ajmal Kasab case, the Foreign Minister said these queries were necessary to make the case more logically tenable in the court. He said as the case is under progress in the court, therefore, required more tangible and logical evidences so that the case could be reached to conclusion. On the issue of terrorism, the foreign minister said Pakistan and India both are victims of terrorism and cooperation in the fight against this menace was need of the hour. Answering a question on the purchase of modern submarines by India for its Navy recently, the Foreign Minister said has taken serious notice of this development. He said, “Pakistan is fully aware of its defence needs and confident of its defence strength.” The Minister said the country has full confidence in its armed forces and people although Pakistan has not aggressive designs. Qureshi said, “Pakistan does not want to follow arms race in the region but there is balance due to strategically ability of Pakistan and this balance clearly indicates that war in not an option in the region and it will be a suicidal attempt.” He said as dialogue is the only war forward and he did not see any lack of will among the leaders of Pakistan and India therefore, it is hoped that dialogue process will resume soon. The Minister urged the media of both the countries to play positive and constructive role for the success of the dialogue process. “There is need to adopt careful and optimistic attitude to the leaders of both the countries for the resumption and success of the dialogue process,” he said. The Foreign Minister said, “With positive attitudes we can make progress.” He said without cooperating and engaging each other with mutual respect, the atmosphere could not be make conducive. The Minister said he could make any big promise with the nation on Pak-India relations but assured that Pakistan wanted to have dialogue based on reality and wanted to saw progress in this process. Replying to a question about the mandate of United Nations Commission constituted to probe the assassination of former Prime Minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the Foreign Minister said the Commission can ask and interrogate any one. He said when Mohtarma Benanzir Bhutto was assassinated here in Rawalpindi, Musharraf was powerful President and UN Commission has the right to interrogate him in the process of preparing its report. He said the UN Commission is basically for fact finding and it will prepare its report by the end of this year that will be presented to Secretary General UN. He said the report then will be given to Pakistan by the Secretary General and then Pakistan government take appropriate action. The Minister said Pakistan could do the investigation locally but there could be acquisitions of witch hunting therefore, the PPP government decided to approach United Nations for impartial investigation at it was the loss of Pakistan, Muslim world and international democratic forces. Earlier, addressing the passing out of 28th session of specialised training of the Foreign Office officials, the Foreign Minister said Pakistan has produced professional and out standing diplomats who have served within and out side the country. He urged the new officers of the Foreign Office to take on the responsibility of adopting a foreign policy to promote cultural, trade and economic relations besides projecting Pakistan’s true image in the world. The Minister appreciating the standard of training to the foreign office officials at the Academy said he had very good, trained and professional team at the Foreign Office working effectively. The Foreign Minister said Secretary of State of United States Hillary Clinton will visit Pakistan this October and Pakistan will share its feelings to further improve trade and economic relations between the two countries. Appreciating the courses for the training of the officers at the Academy, the Foreign Minister who earlier presided over the meeting of the Board of Director of the Academy emphasised the need to engage members of the Foreign Affairs Committees of parliament for having better interaction on the foreign policy. Director General Foreign Service Academy Fauzia Nasreen and newly trained officer Amir Saeed also spoke on the occasion. The Minister distributed certificates among the 14 officers who completed their specialised training at the Foreign Service Academy and had resumed their duties at the Foreign Office. LINK
