TEHRAN: Iranian opposition leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroubi and powerful cleric Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani were absent from Monday's ceremony that endorsed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as president, state-owned television reported. The Arabic-language channel said former reformist president Mohammad Khatami also did not attend the ceremony where supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei confirmed Ahmadinejad for a second four-year term.
